What are the best double strollers for twins of multiples? Carissa and I see this question a lot on twins/doubles/multiples facebook groups.
As a First Time Twin Mom, a mom of multiples and mom of two under three, here are our recommendation for the best double strollers for twins or multiples. *Side Note: Carissa and I have a weird obsession with strollers, ask our husband!*
Snap & Go
First, the best twin stroller for newborns is a lightweight stroller that fits your car seats. These types of strollers are commonly called a “snap & go”.
Do not make my mistake, I found an amazing deal on a double car seat stroller at a consignment sale, that Carissa and I hit up when I was first pregnant, for $25! It was over the moon, it was amazing, $25!…until I got home and realized how heavy it was and that it barely fit in my car.
There was NO WAY I could load and unload it into my car post c-section.
So, I quickly pivoted and got the Baby Trend Universal Double Snap-N-Go Stroller Frame. It was a life saver! It folds nicely and is a compact, lightweight stroller. I could easily take it places on my own and walk around with babies.
Carissa had a similar one called the Chicco Key Fit Caddy frame which she used for both of her babies. She also love the fact the it was lightweight and super compact!
Jogging & Umbrella Stroller
Next, for when the babies are a bit older (can sit up on their own) get a great jogger and double umbrella stroller.
Carissa and I both found a second-hand BOB Gear Revolution. Carissa was SUPER lucky and found her’s for free on Facebook Marketplace. They were not fancy or the newest model, but kids don’t care if there is a small rip here and there. Jogging strollers are large, but they are great for walks or anywhere with bumpy terrain. This specific stroller is great for any runners out there. Carissa also found that the BOB stroller fits quite nicely on a bike rack so you can travel with it and not use all your trunk space!
Another must have stroller is a Double Umbrella Stroller. I wouldn’t get hung up on a brand. Once again, go for a compact, lightweight stroller. Don’t break the bank.
If you are wondering what double stroller is best for a toddler and an infant, a great option is the Graco Ready2Grow. Since Carissa’s babies are 18 months apart, her oldest really struggled with not being able to be closest to mom when in the stroller. The fun thing about this stroller is how it allows your to put a smaller toddler in the front or the back! You never know how siblings are going to react to baby!
Stroller Wagon
Lastly, for when the babies transition to toddlers. Get a Stroller Wagon. There are facebook groups gallor on this topic. Wonderfold, Keenz, Larktale, Jeep, BabyTrend and so much more. Make a list of features that are important to you. We started with a BabyTrend wagon and it works just fine. My biggest hang up was the lack of footwell (I should have realized this. Missing a footwell turned out to be a big deal for my son. He cannot sit flat on his bottom.) We plan to upgrade in the near future.
Bonus
Bonus stroller idea… you might consider a single ‘basic’ stroller in case you go some place with only one child. It doesn’t happen often but you’ll thank me that you aren’t lugging around a double stroller for only 1 kid. Since we often go places with only my son (mostly doctors appointments) – we ended up getting a second hand Baby Jogger GT City Mini. It was perfect!
Let’s recap:
Our recommendation for the best double strollers for twins or multiples:
- Stroller 1 – Lightweight, small fold stroller that will fit your car seats
- Stroller 2 & 3 – Good jogging stroller and compact umbrella stroller
- Stroller 4 – Stroller Wagon Time! Do your research.
- BONUS Stroller – Basic Single Stroller
Don’t Forget…
Look at used strollers! Whether it’s Facebook Marketplace or a Consignment sale, you can save a TON of money buying them second hand. Let’s be real, they are just going to be gross from your own kids within a few days!
So there you have it! Our list of the best double strollers for twins or multiples. No need to get them all at once, as your babies grow you can upgrade your stroller game.
